Current Beauty Crush: The Balm Cosmetics

Hello everyone! How are you all? Recently I've been trying to branch out a little and try more products from other brands and I have been absolutely in love with The Balm Cosmetics. With their super cute and quirky packaging they really do remind me a lot of Benefit Cosmetics. Although I've only tried a couple of their products at the moment, I really am in love with them all and so thought in today's post I would create a make-up look featuring the products I have from The Balm.

To create the look, I opted for a neutral, lightweight, everyday appropriate vibe. With it being the month of February, or 'the month of pink' as I like to call it, I decided to work with a subtle pink and brown smokey eye. The colours in the 'Nudetude' palette as you can already tell are just stunning, I honestly don't have anything like this in my collection. The shades I used were 'Stubborn' 'Stand-Offish' and a touch of 'Sultry' just to smoke things up a little bit. The pigmentation of these shades isn't as good as my trustee Urban Decay palettes but considering the shades I used were fairly light in comparison to the majority of the palette, they did show up fairly well. On the plus side of things, these shades honestly last for hours they are so long wearing and for £29.99 this palette is worth every penny, in my opinion that is definitely a bargain!

If you follow me on Instagram, you may know that last month I picked up the 'Time Balm' concealer and 'What's Your Type' mascara for super cheap in Urban Outfitters, I genuinely only paid £3 for the mascara!!! One thing I will say though is this mascara is certainly worth a lot more than only £3 I've tried many mascaras and as a girl with very short eyelashes it is hard to come across the 'perfect' mascara. At the moment I am currently torn between the Benefit Roller Lash and The Balm What's Your Type. If you're looking for super long looking lashes that last all night even without a mascara primer then What's Your Type is the one for you. However if you want a bit of a curl to your peepers then Benefit's Roller Lash would be the better alternative. For me having long eyelashes is an essential when it comes to doing my make-up and so this mascara is actually, probably my favourite product I've used by The Balm so far.

Now as you can see the 'Time Balm' concealer is super dark. For a pale girl like me that isn't what I want in a concealer.. But! I have surprisingly found a way to make this work. With the Spring and Summer months slowly beginning to creep up upon us, BB creams will probably become the new hype within the next 8 weeks. As this concealer is so dark, I find if I opt for a light base, especially a BB cream and use the concealer just to cover up any blemishes on my face and blend in well in a circular motion it actually works really really well! Although this gives quite a light to medium coverage, I can see this concealer becoming a definite Summer essential of mine! It surprisingly isn't orange toned in the slightest either once blended in which was a real shock to me considering how pale I am and how dark the product was, that definitely deserves an extra brownie point from me.

Lastly, the beloved Mary-Lou Manizer. Now, what beauty blogger doesn't love this product? Before receiving this for my birthday in December, I was actually quite wary of visiting the champagne side of things. I was comfortable with a silver highlight and didn't really feel the need to change that up at all but I'm so glad that I did. I find using a more golden toned highlight really helps to enhance your contour giving a more fresh faced, sun kissed look to the skin which is simply gorgeous and I can already tell I will be reaching for this product a lot more once again in the upcoming Spring/Summer months.

Valentine's Day Treat Ideas

Hello you lovely lot! Now, which one of you out there doesn't like food? I'm about 99% sure that none of you said no to that question, and so I thought I would share with you a couple of Valentine's Day inspired recipes which you can try out. These would be perfect no matter what your plans for the dreaded V-Day are, whether you're hanging out with the girls or fancy a movie night at home with your man. After all, do I really need to ask you again who doesn't like food?!

'Love Punch' Healthy Strawberry Smoothie

What You Will Need:
  • Strawberries (I used around 7!)
  • 2 Apples
  • Apple and Raspberry Juice
  • Ice (2 full trays in the blender, add extra when serving if you wish!)

How To Make:

  1. Ensure to wash your fruit and slice into small pieces. For the apples remember to remove the entirety of the skin and the core to ensure there are no pips in your drink!
  2. Place all of your ingredients into a blender, starting with the ice first; then the fruit and lastly the juice.
  3. Make sure your blender is properly sealed and then begin to blend for a couple of minutes until the mixture is well blended. It may appear slightly frothy - Don't worry this is normal, just stir your drink well and it should hopefully begin to dissolve in the drink!
  4. Lastly, pour over ice - Serve and enjoy!

'Heart on My Sleeve' Strawberry and Marshmallow Treats

What You Will Need:
  • Heart Shaped Marshmallows
  • Baking Chocolate
  • Sprinkles/Hundreds 'n' Thousands
  • Cocktail Sticks/Kebab Skewers
  • Strawberries - If you wish!

How To Make:
  1. Begin by breaking up your chocolate into a bowl.

  2. Pour some cold water into a pan and prepare to boil.

  3. Place your bowl on top of the pan to melt the chocolate as the water boils.

To finish, place your strawberries and marshmallows onto your kebab skewers and garnish with the chocolate and sprinkles. It's literally as simple as that but it tastes soooo yummy! I opted for dark chocolate, white chocolate and some super cute pink and white sugar pearls.

'Sweetheart' Marshmallow Cupcakes

Now these are completely optional but I had spare chocolate and marshmallows left and so decided to create a little something extra rather than waste the left overs!

What You Will Need:
  • Cupcake Cases
  • Marshmallows
  • Baking Chocolate
  • Strawberry Sauce

How To Make:
  1. Place 3 marshmallows in each cupcake casing.
  2. Add a dollop of melted chocolate to each, placing in the centre of the marshmallows to ensure they all stick together when the chocolate has set to create the form of a marshmallow cake!
  3. To finish, add a generous drizzle of strawberry sauce.
  4. Place in the fridge for an hour to set, then eat and enjoy!

So I hope that you enjoyed this post! Remember that you don't have to have a boyfriend/girlfriend to enjoy some good food!! I know that I'll be spending my Valentine's day at home stuffing my face with all of these goodies. Which treat looks like your favourite? January Favourites

Hello you beautiful people! Can you believe that chapter one of twelve is complete already?! I hope that you all had a lovely month and of course treated yourself to a few cheeky purchases, I know I did! In today's post I will be sharing with you everything I have been loving in January, so grab a snack and enjoy!

Tangle Teezer
As a person with long hair, I tend to suffer with really, really bad tangly tresses. I've seen a few people talking about the tangle teezer for a while now and when I was in Urban Outfitters earlier on this month I decided it was time to finally pick this bad boy up and wow is all I can say. Brushing has never been easier, I've finally ditched the detangler spray and my hair honestly hasn't felt so soft and smooth and tangle free since I bought this, I'm in love!

Lush - 'Grease Lightning' Spot Treatment
Since Christmas passed I've been breaking out an awful lot this month and so decided to have a little visit to Lush to see if an organic treatment would work much better for my skin. My theory certainly wasn't wrong. This stuff genuinely reduces my spots over night in both redness and size! I've been using this for nearly three weeks now and my spots have genuinely nearly all cleared up, so I definitely recommend this if you're suffering from a bad breakout at the moment. The only thing I'm not too keen on is that this is a gel formula which does dry my skin up a little but it does its job superbly so I can't complain.

Lush - 'The Kiss' Lip Scrub
Another I picked up from Lush is of course their latest limited edition lip scrub. I am genuinely obsessed with these at the moment and I have 3 already!! The Kiss scrub reminds me of the little love hearts sweets I had as a kid which had all the cute little words on them like 'Big Kiss' written on them, it smells and tastes exactly like this which couldn't be more anymore appropriate for Valentine's day!! I also am in LOVE with the mini edible hearts and hundreds and thousands which is super cute and is just the perfect little touch in my opinion. Speaking of V-Day, I have a DIY Valentine's Day treats post coming up next week so stay tuned for that!

The Balm 'What's Your Type?' Mascara
On my trip to Urban Outfitters I managed to snag this beauty for only £3!! Yep, that's right just £3! Don't you just love sales?! The product adds a super amount of length and the long brush and small bristles work perfectly for getting right into the corners of your lashes, definitely the best bargain buy I have bought in a long time!!

Benefit 'Roller Lash' Mascara
Speaking of mascara, of course we cannot forget the exclusive release of the Benefit Roller Lash mascara in the latest release of Elle magazine! Now, I was loving my Balm mascara but I'm afraid Benefit's Roller Lash just has that extra special something that has become my all time new favourite mascara. This beauty has it all! It curls, thickens, lengthens, is long lasting, separates the lashes brilliantly. What more could you possibly ask for?! I'll definitely have to purchase the full size when it is released next month, ahh!!

Maybelline Color Tattoo in 'On and On Bronze'
And so, I finally found it! I have genuinely been looking high and low for this shade for the longest time and when I finally came across it in Superdrug I was dying to give it a try! I love the creaminess of the Color Tattoo's and this colour is perfect for both day and night looks! This colour compliments anything burgundy and is so simple yet so gorgeous at the same time, I've worn this without a primer and it has honestly still lasted me the whole day! Definitely my favourite shade from the whole range.

Benefit Porefessional Alarm Clock
Last, but not least is this cute little alarm clock I picked up from Benefit! I have been dying to get my hands on one of these and now finally with it being porefessional month they decided to give these away as a free gift when you bought a full size porefessional and spent over £40 in store. I have honestly far too much porefessional!! Two full sizes, two 7.5ml sizes, a 3ml and to top that all off a 0.15ml! It's safe to say I'm not running out anytime soon! I just think this is super cute on my bedside cabinet and I adore the fact that instead of 4 O'Clock, it of course says Pore O'Clock!

So that has been everything that I have been loving throughout the month of January! I really hope you liked this post and leave me a comment down below telling me what you have been loving throughout January. Until next time lovelies!

Have you tried any of the favourites I included this month?

GUEST POST: Holiday Packing - Choosing The Essentials

Hello everyone! In today's post the lovely Remi will be discussing how she organises her suitcase when it comes to packing for a holiday. I've never featured a guest post before so I'm super excited for someone else to have a little share of my blog for this post! Remi doesn't yet have her own blog, but she definitely should her written ability is great, which you will discover if you continue reading..

For those of us who love to travel, there are those sweet problems (Where should I go next?) and those less sweet (Oh my God, what should I pack now?). You will never be able to enjoy all these new places if all you can think about is: ‘It’s so cold, I should have taken my sweater with me’ and ‘I’m going to hang myself for not packing my bikini this time’. There are a few things I’ve learned the hard way these past years, and in order to help you guys not fall into the same trap, I’m going to tell you a few things which might help you pack for your next trip.

Skin & Hair Care

Pack your morning and evening products, but don’t bother taking three different kinds of moisturiser, two different hand creams and four shampoos and hair conditioners. It just makes no sense and it will be a waste of space. For your face I’ll usually take travel-sized toothpaste, toothbrush, face wash and a moisturiser, and makeup remover wipes. Add shampoo, conditioner, body lotion and a razor, and you are pretty much good to go. I like to pack my makeup separately just to make sure nothing spills. I put protective caps on my brushes and generally avoid carrying too much makeup. I usually go with a few everyday products like mascara, foundation and a concealer, and I always bring a versatile eye shadow pallet that can produce a tone of different looks – in fact Toni talked about one of those in this post if you haven’t read it yet. And just in case I fancy a party, I’ll put on a pop of bright lipstick and I’m good to go.

What to Wear When You Get There

One of the things I learned on many of my trips: pack only pieces which pair up well! I consider leggings to be one of the greatest inventions of all times because they are super-comfy and pair up with pretty much everything: shorts, skirts and dresses alike. Tops should be light and bright, and I recommend bringing a black dress because it can be both causal and stylish. Scarves are my favourite, and I also like big chunky statement necklaces. And never again will I forget my bikini, I swear! Also, colourful kaftans are great to have too because they take virtually no space in your suitcase and make you look glamorous at the beach.

Roll it Up

Now, folding your clothes leaves it wrinkled and generally drives me crazy, so I choose to roll it up instead. I’m careful about it, though, since wrinkling is inevitable but can be minimized. On the plus side, this way my clothes take up far less space in my suitcase. Another advice - put your tops, dresses and scarves on top of your shoes and jeans, because that way these heavier things won’t squash them.
Making a list is always a good idea; it will eventually save you a lot of time and nerves. You can add things to your initial list or remove them if you decide they weren’t very helpful. If there were things you didn’t use at all on your last trip, chances are great that you won’t need them on the next one, too.

So I hope you liked Remi's post, she's really looking forward to all of your feedback! If you're nice enough, who knows it may be the well needed encouragement to create her own blog!! Until next time lovelies!
