Brand Starter Pack | The NARS Products You NEED

If you have been following my blog for a while now then you probably know that NARS are one of my favourite beauty brands. Not only is their packaging so effortless and sleek but the quality of their products is just too damn good. Last year I was actually lucky enough to be noticed by the brand on Instagram in which they sent me the most gorgeous phone case!!
But the question I get asked so often during the beauty blogger chats on Twitter is "What products do you actually recommend from the brand?!" As NARS have such a huge variety, (their latest release being the velvet matte skin tint) it can be quite difficult to know where to start. And so, today's post is a roundup of the top five NARS products you NEED in your collection.

NARS COSMETICS TOP FIVE

Tinted Moisturiser | £29.00
The ultimate your skin but better look, this is my absolute go to for everyday wear. Whilst I'm spending a long day at university, I don't want to place anything too heavy on my face but I still acquire a decent amount of coverage; this is where the NARS tinted moisturiser comes in. This adds a radiant glow to my face, with a medium coverage which can be easily built upon with a heavy duty concealer. And when paired with the pore refining primer this lasts all day, additionally as it's oil free I don't have to worry about the dreaded 4 o'clock shine. This is also the perfect summer staple with an SPF of 30.

Blush in 'Orgasm' | £23.00
This beauty isn't a cult classic for no reason! Add a pretty flush of rose gold to your cheeks and as this already contains gold shimmering speckles, there's no need to add a highlighter - Well, unless you're feeling super fancy that day! Although this looks quite scary in the pan, it blends effortlessly for a natural and healthy glow.

Audacious lipstick in 'Carmen' | £24.00
Every girl needs a classic red lip in her collection and for me this is my perfect shade. I will go as far as to compare this to the Chanel offering. Yes, I really did just say Chanel!! The pigmentation of this lipstick is insane, withstanding the eating and drinking test which says a lot from me as I constantly feel the need to reapply my lipstick. But with this beauty I could afford to forget it at home whilst being out all day and still look near enough perfect by the time I came back.
If there is any NARS product worth splurging on, then it's definitely an audacious lipstick.

Stick concealer in 'Chantilly' | £19.00
Most people tend to rave over the creamy radiant concealer which is fab for concealing blemishes but if you're all about highlight and definition like I am, then the stick concealer in 'Chantilly' is the one for you. With its flat topped edge it is perfect for concealing around the brows, so much so that my brows are never complete without this; it defines and lifts my arches, giving the illusion of a 'HD' look. As I love a good defined arch this concealer is my brow best friend. Use it to highlight your under eyes and bridge of your nose too! Furthermore it's enriched with moisturising 'Vitamin E' to rejuvenate and hydrate the skin.

Palettes
It's a known fact that NARS produce some of the best palettes, especially for the cheeks. The offering shown in the picture was the limited edition Virtual Domination cheek palette from winter 2014. For just £45 I received three blushes, a highlighter and bronzer which considering one blush can cost you £23 this was an absolute bargain. This also comes in super handy for travelling as you can take your blush, highlighter and bronzer all in one. There's usually always a palette available with a similar offering and I've linked a cheek and eye option below.

And that was my top five picks from NARS. Have you tried anything from the brand? Which products would make your top five?! Please see below for links to all of the above products mentioned. Until next time,

Time Management | Balancing Your Blog With Everyday Life

Balancing your blog with university life or a full time job it's seriously a lot harder than it looks and it's then ten times harder if you're trying to balance all three. As challenging as it may be, blogging can be so rewarding - Especially when you receive a really positive reaction from a post you worked really hard on. Unless you're a full time blogger, finding the balance between your daily and social life and your blog really is so important. And although, we might never be able to find the perfect balance (Events and deadlines always seem to creep up on us at the very last minute!) I've shared with you below my top five tips to help manage your time effectively.
Waking up early
ESPECIALLY at weekends! If you're lucky enough to work during the week and have the weekend to yourself then ensuring you wake up early is so important for being productive. I know it can be tiring after the long working week you have just half heartedly pulled yourself through but you will be amazed with the things you can get done in your day if you make the time to get up early, rather than lie in until 12. I also find that when I lie in I feel really sluggish and lazy, which doesn't help with putting myself into a motivational mindset.

Creating a schedule
Similarly to waking up early, creating a schedule of when to do things really helps to motivate me to get things done. I am lucky enough to have Tuesday's and Wednesday's off from uni, as well as the weekend. I like to use this time to dedicate both to blogging and university work.
For example, I like to be awake and having breakfast by 9am; during this time I will catch up on social media from overnight. Between 10 and 11 I will schedule my tweets for the day and comment on blog posts. Then, from 11 onwards I will concentrate on university work if it were a Tuesday and blog work on a Wednesday. Giving myself this structure lately has helped me to balance my time so much more effectively.

Blogging on the go
Whether you get the bus, tram, train, car or underground to work this can be the perfect time to get some blog work done. With the blogger app I am able to write up posts wherever I am and sometimes being away from my workspace is where I conjure up my best ideas. Similarly, I have breaks between some lectures and if I have no university work to do, I'll get some blog work done - Whether this be scheduling tweets, writing up a post or responding to emails; every little helps!

Plan posts
If you have no idea what blog posts to upload this week then how will you even be able to consider blogging on the go?! I always ensure I have a list of blog post ideas in my office, that way if I am struggling with a blogger's block I always have a back up plan. If you're fortunate enough to have the spare time, having more than one post ready and drafted to go will really help you with your blog if one week a last minute emergency or hefty assignment crops up in work/university.
I read a fantastic blog post the other day featuring 100 blog post ideas for beauty bloggers which you can check out here if you're really struggling.

Take a break
And if you're really struggling to find a balance, then there's no shame in taking a break. Blogging is a hobby and a hobby should be something you are finding fun and enjoy. If blogging is causing you more stress than joy, maybe it's time it took a backseat for a while, just whilst you find your feet with work. Whenever I have exams coming up I usually take between 2 and 4 weeks away from blogging for a while to ensure I can place all of my spare time into revision. Then once your exams are over, going back to your blog feels so refreshing rather than stressful if you pile too much pressure on yourself trying to balance both at the same time.

I hope that these tips helped at least some of you out. If you would like to see a separate post featuring my top tips for 'blogging on the go' then please do let me know in the comments below as this is definitely a post I'm thinking of sharing! Always remember than blogging is meant to be fun and you should never worry about taking a break - Your readers are bound to understand and if they don't, then at least you know they weren't really genuine.
Until next time,

10 Top Tips To Regain Focus In Your Life

Surprisingly, this wasn't actually the post I had in mind for today but for the past week I have been feeling a little out of touch with everything. It was my first week back at university after the Christmas break and with assignments looming and a new timetable to adjust to, I think everything just began to get on top of me a bit. My fitness regime has lacked massively this past week and I wasn't really bothering to schedule and promote my blog posts at all. I just didn't really feel like it. Reflecting on this, I decided I needed to get myself back into the motivation game, back on track with my goals and back into enjoying blogging again.

Creating a schedule
This weekend I sat down and planned my day by the hour - If it works in school, then surely it has to work at home right?! On Sunday I woke up at 9am as planned and carried out different tasks I had set myself to do at selected times within the day, right through until it was time to go to bed. Doing this made me feel so much more productive and most importantly, it gave me a focus. Having a structure really helps me to feel like I've got it together and this is a technique I think I shall be doing all the time from now on.

Write to do lists
Similarly to writing a schedule, if you aren't as OCD as me when it comes to getting things done by a certain time then writing a list might be a better option for you. As you've completed a task just tick it off the list as you go down, each tick will become a huge weight off of your shoulder. Some of you might see sticking to a schedule as adding extra pressure to yourself and that's fine and so a list may work better for you. For me personally, without a time frame I tend to digress and become really off task. I work far better under a time pressure.

Pamper session
One of the best ways to refocus is to simply unwind. It's likely you're feeling stressed when you lose focus, take some time out to treat yourself - you deserve it.

Take time out - Go for a walk
Social media can be a real distraction when we're trying to get work done. I have such a bad habit of turning straight to my phone during any breaks I have from work but sometimes, this can actually do more bad than good. Next time you have a break, switch off your phone - Even if it's just for an hour and go for a walk, appreciating the beauty of nature really helps my mind to relax and my mood to perk up.

Distract yourself
Similarly to taking time out, distracting yourself with something you love and enjoy shall definitely perk your mood. Sunday morning, the first thing I did was head onto my roof and take some stunning photographs of the snowfall; nature truly is such a beautiful thing and combined with my love for photography this really helped to start my day off in the best possible way. I then posted one of the photographs to Instagram and so it may have only been 9:30am but I had already done something relatively productive with my day. Start as you mean to continue, as they say.

Read
One of the best ways to stretch the mind and engage with your brain is to read. Whether it be a blog post, an article within a fashion magazine or a gripping novel; engaging your brain with some light reading is a really effective way of regaining focus towards working again.

Create a food diary
If we truly are what we eat, then ultimately what we put into our bodies will reflect our overall mood and concentration levels for the day. If you find yourself bingeing on sugar too much your brain is probably relying on this to focus and without it you feel sluggish - Train your body to have sugar within moderation, drink plenty of water and eat lots of fibre and protein to help with concentration.

Set yourself a challenge
Give yourself a reason to become focused again. Set yourself a goal for the week or even the month and if you achieve it, treat yourself to a MAC lipstick or a new top; absolutely anything that you want! This will give you an incentive to start focusing on your work again, although don't treat yourself every week - Your bank balance might not thank you very much!

Evaluate your fitness
When I miss a workout because I've been too busy, I do tend to feel quite bad and once I've missed one it becomes acceptable to miss another and another. By then it has been a week and you've done nothing. Fear not, Pinterest is my best friend when it comes to getting me back on track - With tonnes of 30 day fitness challenges on there, there is bound to be something for you. Best bit is, it tells you what exercises to do and how many to do of each - Therefore you don't have waste time thinking on what to work on that day. You can follow me on Pinterest here.

Reflect on the positive
Reflecting on the good things that have happened to you this week, can really help to boost your motivation levels and remind you that, it isn't all as bad as it may seem. This week I achieved a first (80%) in my first ever university assignment and on the same day I discovered this, Urban Outfitters regrammed my photograph on Instagram ahh!! Little things like this truly do mean a lot. What positive things have happened to you this week?

January can feel like quite a pressurising month as our resolutions begin to dawn on us, especially now as the month is halfway over and I'm already slacking on my fitness goals. I hope this post helped you to refocus on your goals and remember, the less pressure you put on yourself to achieve - The better you will feel. Good things come to those who wait, as long as you work hard you will have those goals achieved in no time. Until next time,

"Dream it, believe it, achieve it."

The Winter Staple You NEED In Your Wardrobe: The Poncho

Winter must have - The poncho
Winter must have - The poncho
Winter must have - The poncho
Winter must have - The poncho
Winter must have - The poncho
Outfit Details:
Poncho - Boutique of Molly*
Jeans - River Island
Necklace - Sammydress*

Is it just me or has the temperature dropped massively lately?! I've heard we'll be entering into -13 degree territory by the end of the month - yikes! To help keep me warm whilst looking uber stylish at the same time is this gorgeous brown, grey and burgundy check poncho. Not to mention its uber chic roll neck. The muted browns and greys compliment the deep burgundy and black tones perfectly; creating the ultimate autumnal contrast. This really does take me back, I haven't actually owned a poncho since being around nine when I thought I was the coolest kid at the school disco in a white, fluffy poncho with added pom poms - I clearly was such a style icon haha!
My style is very minimalistic, if it looks effortlessly chic whilst only taking me five minutes to put together then I am well and truly sold. And you can't get any more minimalistic than a poncho aka 'I decided to leave bed still wearing my blanket today'. Paired with some basic skinny jeans, converse and a loose fitted, long sleeved tee underneath for added warmth (Mine was a raglan, white and grey contrast tee incase you were wondering!) - You will be looking like winter's perfect, simplistic dream.

The quality of the poncho itself, retailing at just £34.95 is incredible. When you order online there's always the worry of how warm the item is going to be when it arrives. For instance I ordered a t-shirt online in the ASOS sale which turned out to be the length of a dress and as sheer as mesh. But with Boutique of Molly I was overjoyed with how thick the quality of this knit was, also reflecting true in colour to its online photographs too.

Boutique of Molly offer a quick and fast delivery for just £3.99 (UK), meaning you don't have to embrace the furiously cold weather for much longer. And not to mention, there's nothing better than a pretty pink parcel falling through your door! Don't worry if you're based outside of the UK, the brand does ship worldwide! Don't forget to share your 'Boutique of Molly' selfies on Instagram using the hashtag '#BOMSELFIE' - I'd love to see them!

TO GET 20% OFF YOUR NEXT ORDER, USE CODE 'MOLLY'

Will you be sporting a poncho this winter season?!

An Interview With Sarah Oliver - Writer, Journalist & Biographer | Advice On Becoming A Journalist

We have a super exciting post on Clarke Couture today as the lovely Sarah Oliver has kindly offered to share with you all her advice on getting your foot in the door of the journalist industry. Journalism is definitely where I see myself officially working within the next 10 years and so Sarah's advice has been very insightful for me.

Sarah has published several celebrity biographies including the Sunday Times bestsellers One Direction A to Z and Robert Pattinson A-Z. Other celebrities include Miley Cyrus, Rihanna and even a rescue donkey called 'Pollyanne'. Her books have been translated into seven languages, I think it's safe to say she has become one successful woman. I remember actually reading the One Direction A-Z book when I was around 14 so it's crazy to think I've now had the opportunity to speak to the lady behind the book herself. Without further adieu, let's get straight into the interview!

Would you recommend studying a course directly related to journalism at university?
Whether you decide to do a journalism qualification or an English/History/Media/ degree – you need to want to write outside of your uni course. I did an English degree at Manchester Met and then a Masters in Professional Writing at University College Falmouth. Before I went to Falmouth I had it in my head that I wanted to be a scriptwriter and had to decide whether to do a Masters in Scriptwriting at Bolton or the Professional Writing Masters. I chose the course at Falmouth because it offered units in scriptwriting, writing for business, creative non-fiction, novel writing and writing features for magazines. The whole aim of the course was to give you the skills to make a living from writing. I think lots of ‘creative writing’ Masters don’t do this, they just look at the fluffy stuff and not how you can get a job at the end of the day.

Is it really that important to work for free? Does having a blog count?
You need to get experience so you’re going to have to work for free. It’s great fun. I wrote for a cinema magazine and a wellbeing magazine and learnt so much. I also wrote all the web copy for a website and had my own blog too. Every year thousands of people graduate and you need something to make you stand out from the competition.

Besides writing outside of your course - What other skills should you try and pick up whilst studying?
If you want to be a journalist you should also try to learn about PR, social media and copywriting. Not many people manage to just do journalism, especially with cutbacks everywhere. When I finished my Masters for instance, one of my local papers closed down and the other was pretty much written by three people. You need to build contacts so when jobs come up, they think of you. Submit articles to your local paper, offer to work there free for say 2 days a week and get a paid part time job to keep you going. (If you can, why not live rent-free in your parents for a year and work for free for loads of newspapers/PR agencies?)

How important is it to stay true to yourself and your morals? Is an opportunity worth doing if you have to write for something you aren't passionate about?
As well as being a journalist and celebrity biographer I do freelance copywriting for companies. I don’t like gambling so I would never write for a gambling website. I’m a Christian and when journalists contact me when they’re writing a negative story on Miley Cyrus or Rihanna to see if I’ll give a quote criticising their behaviour, I refuse.  I always think ‘who am I to judge them, they’re just human.’ One verse of scripture that sticks in my mind is ‘Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?’ Too many journalists write trashy articles based on lies and I’d really encourage budding journalists to steer clear of this kind of journalism.

And your final words of advice?
If you want to be a journalist it’s going to take a lot of hard work and determination on your part. Work your way up. Decide what area of journalism you want to specialise in and start following relevant people on twitter. Write about things you’re passionate about and practice, practice, practice. Above all, be true to yourself. Decide early on what you will and won’t write about.

Why not check out Sarah's blog, here

A huge thank you once again, to the lovely Sarah for sharing her words of wisdom. I hope that some of you may have found this interview useful - Are you a budding journalist? Which area of journalism are you hoping to specialise in? I'd love to hear all about in the comments below! I personally am hoping to become a fashion and beauty journalist which is why studying International Fashion Promotion seemed like the right option for me, in gaining broader skills about the fashion industry and promotion rather than just simply studying fashion journalism. Until next time,

8 Top Tips To Buy Wedding Dresses For Less | GUEST POST

A little bit of a different post on Clarke Couture today. The lovely Freya, a blogger and adventure seeker; shall be sharing with you her top tips on wedding dress shopping. A wedding may seem quite far into the distant future for some of you right now, but a girl can dream, can't she?!

For any girl, a wedding day is the best day of her life. So for the same reason, she should have the best for that day. If you are from a middle-class family, it won’t be easy for you to spend lavishly for the big day. When it comes to wedding preparation, the most important thing that you cannot neglect is the wedding dress. So now, get the best wedding dress for the big day by spending less within your budget. For this, you need to follow the tips below:

wedding dress

Trunk shows: Wedding designers regularly host trunk shows at different boutiques on different dates. At these shows, they display wedding dresses at discounted rates. So decide from which designer you want to buy and check out when their trunk shows are scheduled at local boutiques.

A sample dress: Most of the shops will have sample wedding dresses kept for display. These dresses are tried out by girls from time to time. Many a times they become out of season or discontinued and so the shops usually give away them at discounted rates. This can be a better way to save on your wedding dress. So ask the boutiques for sample pieces. If you are in a hurry, then this might be your best option.

Mass retailers: Many wedding dress designers sell out their dresses directly to the mass retailers. So they are very cheap compared to the boutiques. Moreover, they will have a wide collection of dresses in different sizes. So you can try a dress and if it fits you well, you can take it home the same day.

Hire a seamstress: Seamstresses will help you to recreate a design from your favourite designer. If you want your dress to be unique, you can even ask them to do some little work on it. This can be the best option for the brides who want their dress to be a custom one.

Pre-owned dresses: There are many brides who sell away their dress once the wedding is over. This can be the best option for the girls who are looking for designer dresses at a fraction of the price. Many websites are into this business. So be sure about your measurements before you buy one.

Go for discounts: There are many stores like River Island from which you can buy dresses in bulk at good discounts. If you managed to get River Island Promo Code, you can save lot of bucks on your dresses.

End of season sales: Most of the stores, give away their products at heavy discounts during the end of season sale. If you are lucky, you may even get a promotional offer on the products. So make sure to give it a try and get better discounts.

Rent a dress: It is definitely not a popular thing to do, but you can still try. This makes it possible to get the costliest dress for your wedding by just spending some pounds. So a dress worth ₤12000 can be rented at ₤1000 for the big day.

So follow the above-mentioned tips to get your dream wedding dress for your big day.

Go on then, be honest! How many of you have a Pinterest board filled with dreamy wedding dresses?! And if you are already married, what dress did you wear on your big day? I'd love to hear about it in the comments below!
Until next time lovelies,

16 Ways To Start 2016 Right

HAPPY NEW YEAR!! I hope you all had the most fantastic NYE and are feeling pumped and ready for what 2016 may have to bring. After the fun of the party season has died down, January can start to feel a little blue. In today's post I'll be sharing with you 16 things you can do to kick start your 2016 in the right direction!

  • Have a diary/planner - Get yourself organised with a planner and fill yourself with positivity in a diary.
  • Re-decorate your workspace - Printing out some inspiring wall art can really help to improve your positivity and working mood.
  • Exercise - Start the year off right by working on those fitness goals straight away!!
  • Try something new - Whether it be a new haircut or a new hobby, give yourself something to be excited about this year.
  • Make a happiness jar - Every time you make a happy memory this year, write it down and place it into a jar. Then when you're feeling sad you can remember the reasons you have to feel positive and happy.
  • Read more - Back at work/school next week? Use this time to start reading more, not only will it help you get back into the working mode but it will stretch your mind too!
  • Make plans - Similar to trying something new, give yourself something to look forward too and be excited about this year. It could be a shopping day with the girls or finally booking that summer holiday - This year, make adventures!
  • Use Pinterest - I love Pinterest when I feel like I'm lacking inspiration. Whether it be a motivational quote or some pretty street style snaps to inspire your wardrobe, Pinterest certainly isn't short of motivation.
  • Pamper day - What a better way to start the new year than a spot of 'me time'?! I really want to start looking after my skin and hair a bit more this year and a pamper day is certainly the best way to do it!
  • Have a clear out - Still contemplating about that t-shirt you've thrown to the back of your wardrobe and haven't worn in 6 months? Chuck it out! Out with the old and in with the new. The best way to refresh your life is to refresh your space.
  • Re-design your blog - Blogger? Feeling a little uninspired? Why not re-design your template and spend a day planning out posts for the upcoming months. This shall help to boost your blogging motivation now that blogmas is over (If you took part! - Well done!!) and give you something to feel excited about again with your blog. If you're feeling uninspired about blogging, now is the best time to change things as this will help to set the tone of your blog with your readers for the next year.
  • Set yourself goals - I know that not everybody is a fan of new year's resolutions but setting yourself goals is sometimes the best way to move forward. We often tend to set ourself 'unrealistic' goals for the year ahead as we fantasise about our new bodies and minds - Create yourself a plan on how you will achieve those goals and each month you can refer back to it to track your progress.
  • Become a morning person - Getting into a regular sleeping pattern of 8 hours each night being awake by 9 can really help to boost motivation. Remember, the longer your day, the more time you have to build on your goals.
  • Eat your five a day/Drink plenty of water - Sometimes it isn't always easy to stick to a balanced and healthy diet, especially with the piles of leftover Christmas chocolate still lingering around! But eating healthier shall ultimately lead to skin and health benefits and thus improving your mood. For the perfect recipe to positivity, one must enrich the body with positive ingredients.
  • Create a routine - Giving yourself a daily plan to follow which may include exercise, work and reading will allow your body to get used to the new changes you may plan to make in your life in 2016. Therefore, rather than it becoming a chore to go on that morning run you will begin to look forward to it, as it becomes a part of who you are and the way you now live your life.
  • Refresh your social space - Lastly, you've refreshed your workspace and now it's time to refresh your daily environment. Is there anyone in your life who is causing you more bother than happiness? It's hard but sometimes we need to banish any negative energy from our lives in order to become much happier and positive in ourselves. Surround yourself with people who bring out the best in you.

May 2016, bring you lots of love, luck and happiness. I hope the year ahead shall fill you with new adventures, lessons to learn and people to meet. Until next time,

How do you plan to own 2016?!
