10 Top Tips To Regain Focus In Your Life

Surprisingly, this wasn't actually the post I had in mind for today but for the past week I have been feeling a little out of touch with everything. It was my first week back at university after the Christmas break and with assignments looming and a new timetable to adjust to, I think everything just began to get on top of me a bit. My fitness regime has lacked massively this past week and I wasn't really bothering to schedule and promote my blog posts at all. I just didn't really feel like it. Reflecting on this, I decided I needed to get myself back into the motivation game, back on track with my goals and back into enjoying blogging again.



Creating a schedule
This weekend I sat down and planned my day by the hour - If it works in school, then surely it has to work at home right?! On Sunday I woke up at 9am as planned and carried out different tasks I had set myself to do at selected times within the day, right through until it was time to go to bed. Doing this made me feel so much more productive and most importantly, it gave me a focus. Having a structure really helps me to feel like I've got it together and this is a technique I think I shall be doing all the time from now on.

Write to do lists
Similarly to writing a schedule, if you aren't as OCD as me when it comes to getting things done by a certain time then writing a list might be a better option for you. As you've completed a task just tick it off the list as you go down, each tick will become a huge weight off of your shoulder. Some of you might see sticking to a schedule as adding extra pressure to yourself and that's fine and so a list may work better for you. For me personally, without a time frame I tend to digress and become really off task. I work far better under a time pressure.

Pamper session
One of the best ways to refocus is to simply unwind. It's likely you're feeling stressed when you lose focus, take some time out to treat yourself - you deserve it.

Take time out - Go for a walk
Social media can be a real distraction when we're trying to get work done. I have such a bad habit of turning straight to my phone during any breaks I have from work but sometimes, this can actually do more bad than good. Next time you have a break, switch off your phone - Even if it's just for an hour and go for a walk, appreciating the beauty of nature really helps my mind to relax and my mood to perk up.

Distract yourself
Similarly to taking time out, distracting yourself with something you love and enjoy shall definitely perk your mood. Sunday morning, the first thing I did was head onto my roof and take some stunning photographs of the snowfall; nature truly is such a beautiful thing and combined with my love for photography this really helped to start my day off in the best possible way. I then posted one of the photographs to Instagram and so it may have only been 9:30am but I had already done something relatively productive with my day. Start as you mean to continue, as they say.

Read
One of the best ways to stretch the mind and engage with your brain is to read. Whether it be a blog post, an article within a fashion magazine or a gripping novel; engaging your brain with some light reading is a really effective way of regaining focus towards working again. 

Create a food diary
If we truly are what we eat, then ultimately what we put into our bodies will reflect our overall mood and concentration levels for the day. If you find yourself bingeing on sugar too much your brain is probably relying on this to focus and without it you feel sluggish - Train your body to have sugar within moderation, drink plenty of water and eat lots of fibre and protein to help with concentration.

Set yourself a challenge
Give yourself a reason to become focused again. Set yourself a goal for the week or even the month and if you achieve it, treat yourself to a MAC lipstick or a new top; absolutely anything that you want! This will give you an incentive to start focusing on your work again, although don't treat yourself every week - Your bank balance might not thank you very much!

Evaluate your fitness
When I miss a workout because I've been too busy, I do tend to feel quite bad and once I've missed one it becomes acceptable to miss another and another. By then it has been a week and you've done nothing. Fear not, Pinterest is my best friend when it comes to getting me back on track - With tonnes of 30 day fitness challenges on there, there is bound to be something for you. Best bit is, it tells you what exercises to do and how many to do of each - Therefore you don't have waste time thinking on what to work on that day. You can follow me on Pinterest here.

Reflect on the positive
Reflecting on the good things that have happened to you this week, can really help to boost your motivation levels and remind you that, it isn't all as bad as it may seem. This week I achieved a first (80%) in my first ever university assignment and on the same day I discovered this, Urban Outfitters regrammed my photograph on Instagram ahh!! Little things like this truly do mean a lot. What positive things have happened to you this week?


January can feel like quite a pressurising month as our resolutions begin to dawn on us, especially now as the month is halfway over and I'm already slacking on my fitness goals. I hope this post helped you to refocus on your goals and remember, the less pressure you put on yourself to achieve - The better you will feel.
